Effective Southern California Attorney Assists Divorcing Spouses

Calabasas law firm works to protect clients’ legal interests in divorce

As an experienced divorce attorney, I know that the breakup of a marriage is one of life’s most difficult events. At Saucedo Law Group in Calabasas, I have helped many clients navigate contested or uncontested divorces and move on to the next chapter of their lives. When you allow me to handle your case, you can trust me to represent you with compassion and understanding, even as I assertively stand up for your interests in matters related to division of property, child custody and other issues. My law firm assists clients in Los Angeles, Ventura and surrounding Southern California counties.

Dedicated lawyer helps with contested and uncontested divorces

There are two basic types of divorce: contested and uncontested. In a contested divorce, the parties do not agree on some or all of the terms of the divorce, so a judge has to decide the terms for them. An uncontested divorce, on the other hand, is a simpler process because both spouses agree on property division, child custody and visitation and other concerns. Even when divorcing couples start out on good terms, conflicts can arise when decisions must be made about asset and debt division. I can help ensure that your interests are protected throughout the process of ending your marriage.

Well-informed counselor explains the filing process

California is a no-fault divorce state, which means you don’t need to prove that your spouse did something wrong to cause the marriage breakup in order to file. You need only assert irreconcilable differences, and you or your spouse must have been a state resident for at least six months. There is a six-month waiting period before an uncontested divorce can be finalized. Contested divorces can take much longer to be final depending upon the circumstances. My experienced law firm can guide you through all the steps involved to help ensure a smooth filing process.

Diligent attorney advocates for clients in debt and property division decisions

California’s community property rule stipulates that all income, property and debts acquired during the marriage should be divided equally upon divorce. The exception to this is when there is a prenuptial or postnuptial agreement in place that defines one or both spouses’ rights to certain assets and property or protects one spouse from the other’s debts. Even when divorcing couples start out on good terms, conflicts can arise when decisions must be made during this process. My experienced family law firm will advise you of your rights and work to protect any assets of yours (separate property) that are not subject to division.
